HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL

Oleofat is the leader in Spain in the production of raw materials from transformed by-products and waste for the development of advanced biofuels such as Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO).

It is a sustainable and environmentally friendly second-generation biofuel that complies with the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive. This hydrotreated biodiesel is obtained from frying oils and vegetable oils treated with hydrogen as a catalyst.

It is the future of the biofuels industry due to the advantages it offers compared to traditional diesel, since it allows for a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and does not generate nitrous oxide emissions.

HVO is included in the EU roadmap based on the directive which requires that at least 14% of transport fuels come from renewable energy by 2030. But Spain’s National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) has set an even higher standard and aims to have at least 28% come from renewables. Ultimately, biofuels such as HVO are key to progressively reducing transport’s carbon footprint.

The benefits offered by HVO in the automotive industry are important if we consider that:

  • It makes it possible to sustainably convert waste from vegetable fats and oils
  • Contains no oxygen or sulfur
  • It is a 100% renewable fuel and produced from waste
  • It can be used without having to modify an automobile´s motor
